And, with a running time of more than two hours, it feels long. Fans of the comic books and earlier animated fare should be pleased by the filmmakers' faithfulness to the original manga, but so many characters come and go that it's possible they may have tried to incorporate too much. On the upside, female characters, with the exception of one ditzy sidekick, are as smart and powerful as their male counterparts.įullmetal Alchemist also has some important notions about family: loyalty, self-sacrifice, and the often pent-up anger that can sometimes emerge.
Fullmetal Alchemist is definitely not for the young or the squeamish - just when you think you've seen the worst villain ever, an even more horrific one shows up to take his or her place. I know it concludes the story, but the finale has an actual ending as well.

I would recomend this to anyone who liked the series and, like me, was a little put off with its ending.Dazzling special effects, an original story with surprising twists and turns, and a seemingly endless supply of bizarre baddies almost make up for this film's intense gore and violence. I just finished Fullmetal Alchemist, and Im wondering if I should watch the movie. I gave this movie 4 stars because I loved it as an ending to the series, but as a movie by itself it would never sell because it depends so much on the plot build up from before. With the help (and sometimes interference) of these people he moves closer to finding a way back to his world. He encounters and interacts with many people in the other world that resemble/reflect key people from his world that he met during their travels. Edward Elric, stuck in our world, has taken up the study of rocketry in order to try and find a way back without the use of his alchemy. Alphonse Elric has become even more adept in alchemy during the two years of study since the last episode, and travels his world looking for the alchemy to find his brother. The Elric brothers are trapped in different worlds, and both are trying desperately to find a way to open a portal between them, to find the other.

As a stand alone movie, this probably isn't as good because it pulls so heavily from the 50 episode series and unless you've watched the series a fair amount, particularly the last 15 episodes or so, you'll be lost during parts of the movie. The movie puts together all the big pieces that the last episode of the series seems to leave lying about. The animation is flawless as is the voice acting. If your interested in this dvd, make sure you watch the entire series first, otherwise it wont make much sense. I highly recomend this movie to anyone who followed the Fullmetal Alchemist anime series. Fullmetal Alchemist: The Conqueror of Shamballa provides perfect closure to what many, including me, hail as the best anime series of all time. Movie sews together what series leaves open.
